Notes About the Media Used In This Project

Even though most of the media is covered under fair use, every effort has been made to obtain permission for their use from the copyright holders. The sources of all the images—as well as the URL from which they were obtained and any copyright/copyleft info avaiable—are located in the metadata of the images.

The audio clips are copyrighted: (P) 2004 Allen Ginsberg Trust. Under Exclusive License to Artemis Records. (C) 2004 Artemis Records. I believe that I have a fairly stong case for fair use. The purpose and character of this project is educational. The site is password protected and intended only for those in education. This site is non-commercial and designed only for research. It is intended as a commentary on the poem and the way sound and music affect interpretation of the poem. Although the copyrighted work is artistic rather than factual, the nature of the copyrighted work is of such educational value that it bears repeating. The amount and substantiality of the work is minimal because only one stanza of the audio recording is distributed at a time. The use does not diminish the value of the recording because the quality is lower and the playback is designed for research rather than entertainment. Those who want to experience the whole work with the music are still better off buying the CD. Those who want to experience the whole poem in printed form are better off buying Planet News, which contains forty other poems in addition to this one.
